AboutAdvancedMM

"Helping Our Community Since 2001"

What's it like to work with us?

Therapists who are happiest in our environment want to work amongst a group of other LMTs and challenge themselves to learn beyond their current body of knowledge...

They’re focused on empowering individuals in their own self-care.  Plus, they're interested in doing specific work and enjoy collaborating with our team about how to best help a patient, as well as how to best help each other. We are 90% treatment oriented and 10% wellness. Most of our wellness clients were at one time patients with an injury claim. They keep coming back to see us for maintenance or to help work out their weekend warrior kinks.

What do we see as our role as massage therapists in the patient's healing journey?

As massage therapists, our roles are many, depending on each patient or client—we’re bodyworkers, educators, sounding boards, guides & detectives. We treat newbies & inspire self-care.

In addition, at AMM we tend to see ourselves in 3 distinct roles:

  • We appreciate that many of our patients have never even received massage before and we’re honored to introduce them to the massage world which they may have never encountered, otherwise, without a doctor’s recommendation & referral following an accident.
  • We see ourselves as teachers and “gardeners” as much as anything else. We teach people about the power of the body’s ability to heal itself, helping folks to understand it takes some time, nurturing, and knowledge about their personal, individual needs. As “gardeners”, we consider these teachings as seeds we plant and enrich through conversation and touch, hoping all these verbal & kinesthetic ideas will take root at some time in their lives, be it today, tomorrow, or in 5-years—whether we ever see its fruition, or not. We do our best to help and then practice a certain level of trust and detachment, remembering that each individual has their own journey in life.
  • One thing we love most about the medical model, in particular, is that sudden injury can be incredibly motivating for people to change, to do something different for their bodies than they otherwise would not have. And we’re here to inspire them towards some change. It’s a chance to wake up, a celestial slap to possibly do life a little bit differently, a little bit healthier. Or a lotta bit!

What we are not?

Yes, that’s a funny way to phrase it. But we realize some therapists, especially new ones, don’t always know the difference between various massage work environments. By saying what we are “not”, it’s simply another way of clarify who we actually are...

So, here are the basics:

1. We are not a spa. As lovely as they can be, we’re simply a very different environment. At AMM, you absolutely do not have to do a routine or “recipe” full-body massage. There’s no fancy robes or piped in music (you choose your own music from a streaming service we provide), and there’s not the 1-time tourist whom you may never meet, again. Rather, our focus is on teaming with our clients/patients to target their greatest physical needs, developing a therapeutic relationship overtime, teaching them about the wondrous healing powers of their bodies, and hopefully inspiring them to practice daily self-care, no matter how large or small.

2. We are not a membership based business where you’re asked to be a salesperson, selling products and memberships. Simply show up, connect with your patient as compassionately, as possible, give them the best you have on any given day, and then do the same with the next massage.

3. We are not expecting anyone to start working with us as treatment or medical massage “Masters". Rather, we delight in educating and mentoring new and seasoned therapists, alike. Through coaching & practice, you will deepen and hone your skills, knowledge, and intuition in the eternally fascinating world of body-work, kinesiology, self-help, and a values-driven career.

What current & past LMTs

say about working at Advanced Medical Massage:

Maggie, LMT:

"20 + years now w/AMM, they gave me the opportunity to put my hands on a lot of different bodies/conditions, and supported continued training to grow in knowledge and skill. My advice for interested applicants would be to ask questions, trade with more experienced therapists, do lots of continuing education, and most of all, when giving massages; slow down, slow down, slow down."

Rosanna, LMT:

"AMM has helped me develop and refine my injury treatment skills, and I like that everything done at AMM is done with intention.

My advice for anyone thinking about joining: Be confident in your skills and listen to your intuition. If you stay grounded and centered it's easy to listen to what the body and muscles are telling you they need help with."

Kat, LMT:

"If you're curious about joining, you should know that AMM does amazing things to ensure therapists are top notch. There are always education and growth opportunities! People can find a good massage just about anywhere, but at AMM we provide a rich environment for education, critical thinking, and positive change in our client's body. AMM is your place."

Katie, LMT:

"The harmonious environment, camaraderie with other LMTs, their continued focus on education and the supportive, communicative work environment is what keeps me enthusiastic about practicing at AMM for over 10 years!"

Kelsey, LMT:

"AMM has helped me in my career development in so many ways, but especially by living by our words. It epitomizes a well-run business model, conscientious coworkers, and ideal free continuing education courses specifically for us therapists who work here. It is a space to explore, be kind, and have some fun with otherwise very stressful situations for our clients."

Jonathan, LMT:

"AMM has pointed me in the direction of taking high quality continuing education with NeuroSomatic Educators that has drastically changed the way I treat and look at the body. I’ve also learned a lot from a variety of talented therapists over the decade + that have worked at the clinic."

Malee, LMT:

"I started at AMM after I had been in the workforce for six months post massage school. I hardly worked on certain anterior neck and pelvic muscles the first six months of my massage career. Just a couple weeks at AMM, and I found myself treating those areas confidently!"

Lauren, LMT:

"This is my first massage therapy job so it is the beginning of my massage therapy career! I chose AMM though because I was looking for a highly supportive, knowledgeable and caring clinic and staff and I believe I have found that here! I have already learned so much and feel supported in growing and helping the community together."

Kayla, LMT:

"AMM helped me straight out of massage school. Continuing education, and seeing lots of patients were the recipe for strengthening my practice and becoming an effective therapist. And now, after several years of practice and CE, I'm now an instructor at NW Academy for Massage and at AMM!"

Hannah, LMT

"As soon as I walked into the door at AMM, I found the atmosphere to be calm, soothing and everyone was so friendly and I knew right away this is where I wanted to be.

AMM’s onboarding process is very thorough. It can be a lot of information, but I think everyone involved works hard to make it digestible. I was most concerned about the electronic health record system, but picked it up pretty quickly."

Gregory, LMT:

"AMM has been an incredible place to better develop this art/craft/therapy. As a community of healers, we not only learn from each other in structured and unstructured settings, but also working always to hold ourselves to our highest standards in thought and practice."

Daniel, LMT:

"Working in a highly skilled clinic gives me the assurance that I can trust my colleagues and refer to others within our clinic who have different strengths or approaches."
